Integration and Innovation

The team of technology coordinators works to support and integrate technology into all subjects. Teachers at Collegiate are exposed to professional development to remain abreast of technological advances. Many teachers have presented at conferences, both local and national, to share their work.

  • Tech Afterschool

    The Lower School “Fun With Tech” afterschool program allows 3rd and 4th grade students to work on creative design and coding projects of their own. The first semester focuses on the Scratch programming environment from MIT and the second half moves on to Lego EV3 robotics. Students enhance their coding skills and work alone or in collaboration with others.
  • Robotics Club

    The Middle School robotics club is focused on the FLL robotics competition. As part of the robotics club and the FLL competition, students complete a research project with real world implications, design and engineer a Lego robot, and learn to program. Collegiate boys then take their programs and Lego EV3 robots to compete in different programming challenges with students from around the city.

Examples of Projects

  • Apps support each unit of study in Kindergarten encouraging the boys to create and communicate. The boys use Bee-bots during literacy and math time.
  • In 2nd - 4th Grade Science, the boys work in a paperless environment utilizing the app Notability on iPads.
  • In 3rd Grade students learn Scratch and work with their Science teachers to create arcade games based on a Geology unit.
  • Logic is taught in 6th grade math that is then used to support the robotics work in science class.
  • In 7th and 8th grade the Art department teaches the fundamentals of stop motion animation using the iPad.
  • In 10th Grade English, the class regularly Skypes with an expert for the course, “Writers in Exile.”
  • In an Upper School History Elective, the boys create an iMovie documentary as their final piece of work.
