Belonging at Collegiate

Community Life

At Collegiate, we believe the work of fostering community and belonging is an “all play,” In short, the work led by the Office of Community, Belonging & Outreach is valued, lived, and breathed by each and every member of our community. We value cultivating a diverse community that prioritizes mattering and where belonging is at the heart of our decision making.

The School intentionally creates an environment that sees, hears, and values all of its community members. We do that in a variety of ways that center on upholding individuals dignity, evaluating our curriculum to make sure that marginalized voices are present and heard and by actively acknowledging the tapestry of cultures and identities that create our vibrant community of learners.

Our approach to belonging is active and fueled by our Tenets of Dialogue and Community Standards. Our goal is to develop a dynamic community of ethical leaders prepared to morally engage in the world through meaningful discourse and positive social impact.

Affinity Spaces at Collegiate

Collegiate advocates and supports affinity spaces for our community members, including our students and adults. An affinity group is when people with common identities and experiences come together to support each other. Affinity spaces provide encouragement and affirmation for those who can speak from the "I" perspective, promoting healthy identity development as well as community building.

Student Groups

Our student affinity groups aim to support multiple identities and foster leadership development. These affirming spaces cultivate solidarity and hold room for self exploration and meaningful expression. Students share various aspects of their identity, leading to a greater sense of belonging and personal integrity.

Parent Groups

The vibrant and diverse parent community at Collegiate plays an essential role in fostering our culture of belonging. Parent affinity groups partner with us to support the identities of students and families by sharing affirming cultural celebrations and organizing community wide cultural learning opportunities.

Faculty/Staff Affinity Groups

At Collegiate, we value relationships—the ones we have with our students and the ones we have with each other as colleagues. To help facilitate a sense of belonging among the faculty and staff, we have affinity groups that are designed to reaffirm and explore aspects of identities. These spaces provide encouragement, affirmation, and support for those who can speak from the "I" perspective. Our affinity groups currently include:
